(Top, Bottoms + Scrunchie) My very first handmade outfit for my toddler — and everything I learned along the way as a beginner.

Sewing baby clothes has been on my bucket list forever. I finally took the plunge with this bright pink leopard set for my toddler - and I'm so proud of how it turned out!
Why I Started This Project
I wanted something fun, practical, and forgiving -elastic waist pants and a simple tie-strap top felt perfect for my first try.
What I Made
A tie-shoulder top, pull-on pants. and a matching scrunchie-all from one bold leopard print cotton fabric.
What I Learned
How to sew elastic casings, attach straps, and finish seams neatly.
Each smail step built my confidence!
The Matching Scrunchie
The perfect little finishing touch! It was quick to sew and used up the leftover fabric.
Now we have a cute hair accessory to match the whole outfit.
The Finished Pants
My first pair of handmade toddler pants — simple, comfy, and made with an elastic waist for plenty of room to move.
Learning As I Go
The inside may not be perfect, but this project gave me great practice finishing seams and understanding how a garment actually comes together.
A Little Something Extra
I used one of the leftover fabric strips to make a tiny matching scrunchie. I love finding ways to use scraps instead of tossing them.
The Matching Scrunchie
Such a simple finishing touch, but one of my favorite parts of the whole set. It also inspired me to keep making scrunchies and eventually create my own sewing. I had just enough fabric left over to make a matching scrunchie, which ended up being one of my favorite little details from the whole outfit. I love finding ways to turn fabric scraps into something useful instead of letting them go to waste.
Keep this very simple and personal:
Start with something manageable.
Take your time with cutting.
Pressing really does help.
Expect to redo a seam every now and then.
You learn a lot faster by actually making something.

My First Outfit, But Definitely Not My Last - I'm Already On The Next One!
Seeing her actually wear something I made made all the little mistakes completely worth it. This was my first handmade outfit, and while there are already things I’d do differently next time, it gave me the confidence to keep learning and making more reference guides.
